Hello
My name is Chaney Cochran and I have been working in athletics production since the spring of 2021. I started my journey as a volunteer for Ram Vision at Colorado State University and studied under the late Benjamin Brune. After graduating in 2022, I remained at CSU as a freelancer and the head of all in venue streaming until the fall of 2024. In September of 2024 I accepted a position with the University of Louisville as their Assistant Director of Television Broadcasts. I am incredibly passionate about women in sports and hope to be a leader and mentor one day to other women in the field.
My Story
I started my journey at CSU in the fall semester of 2020, just as athletics were returning to campus following the pandemic. I got in right as sports were coming back and the first game I worked was a volleyball game in a camera 1/game camera position. At the time I had only run camera for a live event one time, little did I know I would go on to do that for almost 3 years. It took me time to get experience on other positions and I consistently worked camera positions or capture highlights for my first two years.
Once I graduated, our old department director and the creator of the department, asked me if I would like to return in a consistent capacity as a reliable stream operator. I don't think I had ever felt confidence instilled in me to that degree at that point in my life and it changed everything for me when I said yes. My first year at CSU as a freelancer was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned under some of the most talented women I have ever met, who taught me everything I felt I was lacking, I provided streams for most of our sports and even TV.
As a woman in sports I know the disadvantages and challenges out there for me, but I'm determined to forge my way in this industry and be a beacon for other women who are in or want to be in this industry.
